Len of Salon bLU, his partner Larry Sheldon and Sudy Coy fundraiser extraordinaire have plans to make you laugh, trade, buy, bid, eat, drink and buy some more, be warned and then make your reservation, it is filling up fast. In the press release announcing April 2nd Charity Night I promised Sudy, Larry and Len were going to turn bANANaCANtiNA upside down and inside out well they did, with major help from Sally! No more Roosters in the niche, there were beautiful hand made sculpture, no big leather covered banana as you came up the stairs instead beautiful framed photograph of three children titled, Innocence Compassion Friendship.

Every single raffle envelope with a 50/50 chance of winning were sold, come on who could resist Len when he asked you to reach into his goodie basket for a prize. Everyone got into trading, some even begging, all got what they wanted in the end.

Time for the live auction, Larry looking gorgeous and professional got the most for each and every generously donated item. This summer and fall some of your friends may be coming out of a different condo as many were bid on for themselves for a mini get away right here in Vallarta.

Sudy was the high bidder of the framed photographs and then her friend lovingly paid for it as a gift to her, awesome thing friendship.

Once upon a time, a very nice lady (former literary agent) decided that the little "suburb" of Puerto Vallarta needed a little library for the children of her area. So, after alot of work and planning, stocking of children's books, Biblioteca de la Higuera was born. This little library is tucked away under a giant tree in the back of Sally Conley's home in El Pitillal. Stocked well with plenty of reading materials, craft supplies, little tables and chairs, this has become a tiny refuge for many little people. She has seen former little ones grow up into teens, enjoying the pleasures and importance of being able to read and expand their knowledge of the world around them.

BANANAcANtiNA, Pam Thompson of HealthCare Resources and Sally Conley informed, encouraged, laughed, ate and talked about Biblioteca de la Higuera in el Pitillal, the little library that could and does. Photos don't lie, we had a blast and wow the raffle prizes:Bag from Kimberly Torres, Book from Linda Trapp, Book from Polly Vicars, Book from Jenny McGill (what talented women), Gourmet/yummy Cupcakes from Shawn at Crystalcupcakes, 250 Peso dinner certificate from Bruces Back Alley new owners, Gift Certificate from Tom at The Book Store, Book the secret donated by Larry Sheldon, Basket of amazing soaps form Vallarta Soapblends, Braclet and earrings from Nadine (a guest from Winnetca Illinois) and of course as they give so generously every week Mama Dolores Diner, Encuentros Lounge and Pizza Bar and CASSANDRA SHAW JEWELRY gift certificate. Together we raised 6120 pesos (that includes a cash donation of 1000 pesos).

Proving reservations are a must, Susie from Chicago with gorgeous husband and 6 friends eating at ChocoBanana along with all the other ChocBanana patrons. Nikki needed help at ChocoBanana our friend Michael McGee became the ayudante, running up and down the stairs with full and empty plates. Friends, employees, guests

Benefiting Vallarta Enfrente Sida – co-hosted by Pamela Thompson & Paco Arjona.

Charity Night at bANANAcANtiNA to support VALLARTA ENFRENTA al SIDA was a success. With thanks to Pam Thompson of Health Care Resources, Paco Arjon Executive Director V.E.S., and Juan Carlos Garcia, they educated, passed out brochures and sold raffle tickets to EVERYONE raising $5030 pesos. Oh and those Very Hot V.E.S. calendars were flying out the door.

Together Banana Cantina, Gill and Lucy of Lucys Cucu Cabana and Candace Shaw of Fishing with Carolina raised $4870 pesos for AUTISMO O2. The night started with Kerri and I meeting a former superintendent of schools in Chicago and his band of merry men, they were excited about coming back to Vallarta and helping with this and our other Charities. The folks kept coming and the room was full, serval groups had to wait for tables and that added to the merriment of the night.

While thousands were celebrating the last day of the Peregrinaciones and the anniversary of Vallarta, a few of us had dinner. At first Philippa, Margaret and I thought about not doing Charity night because it is so slow on the South side, then thought why not! Why not indeed. We met Sterling and Liz who carried down a bag full of goodies for New Life Mexico and are thinking of many more ways they can help. We met Liz, who would like to assist in numerous ways, Cassandra (with Bean and Leo), Greg, Michael, and friends, Valerie of Curves, bearing gifts from her wonderful Curves Girls, and several more whose names escape me...sorry. All are wanting to do something (and wishing we had a Dollar Store here). So how do we get all of the things (vitamins, toothpaste, wash cloths, toothbrushes, gym shoes, etc) to Puerto Vallarta? ...... TRAVELING ANGELS is born! What is a TRAVELING ANGEL? They make room in their suitcases for donated goods. Tell us where you are from and when you are coming down and we will get the items to you. All that from a quiet night. How lucky are we!
